Long before reaching her status as a top model, Jourdan Dunn was a leggy teen with dreams of seeing the world. Jourdan, with her 2 younger brothers were raised in the working class, west London neighborhood of Greenford. Their single mom worked hard to provide for her children and to set high standards for the three, often relying on their grandmother to help in their upbringing. Jourdan grew up with a strong interest in drama and dance—taking tap, ballet and jazz classes every weekend. She was convinced a life as a performer was her destiny. It was only during an outing with friends that a model scout approached her and suggested she pursue a career in fashion. Shortly after signing with Women, Jourdan made her runway debut in NY during the Fall 2007 show season. Soon after, she quickly rose to prominence within the industry. In 2007, she was featured in British Vogue as a “new star”. This was subsequently followed by style.com naming Jourdan as a “Top 10 Newcomer”. In July 2008, legendary photographer Steven Meisel selected Jourdan to appear on the cover of Italian Vogue. She was also featured on the cover of American Vogue in May 2009, also photographed by Steven Meisel.
In the midst of the growing buzz, Jourdan revealed that she was expecting. The young, mother-to-be quickly and outwardly embraced her journey, making her more prolific than ever. After the birth of her son, she resumed working full-time. With an energetic toddler and a red-hot career on her hands, she was devastated when she received the news that Riley had been diagnosed with the hereditary blood disease, Sickle Cell Anemia. Despite the shock, she quickly sprang into action; educating herself about the disease and seeking out all ways to help her son through his difficult journey. Jourdan is now the Parent Ambassador for Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. She continues to campaign for Sickle Cell awareness and is currently working on several projects to raise money for SCDAA and to bring recognition to the cause.
At present, Jourdan divides her time between her hometown of London and New York City and she can now add Cooking and Lifestyle Expert to her ever growing mantle of titles. She currently hosts “Well Dunn with Jourdan Dunn”, a cooking and lifestyle program on Jay Z’s popular YouTube channel, Life +Times. The self-taught chef shares her love of preparing easy meals while tying in her personal brand of humor. In each episode she brings in a celebrity guest to assist her, adding to the program’s appeal. Well-Dunn is in its second season with a continually growing audience.
In less than 8 years, Jourdan Dunn, the young girl from Greenford has evolved into a respected and sought-after model, a nurturing mother, and a burgeoning personality and philanthropist…very well Dunn indeed.

ON FASHION AND BEAUTY
Have you always been passionate about fashion?
I enjoyed dressing up as most young girls do. It wasn’t until I really got into the business that I started to appreciate what it takes to create fashion.
How would you describe your fashion taste?
Street chic.
What’s your favorite piece in your wardrobe now?
Buscemi sneakers and my Alexander Wang “Parental Advisory” sweatshirt
What gives you confidence in your job as a model and in life?
Music. Empowering music uplifts your spirit and makes you feel good especially when it’s created by strong, confident women.
How do you define “beauty?” What makes a woman beautiful?
Beauty is confidence and self-awareness. To be beautiful, you have to know who you are on the inside. Beauty is kindness and respect for both yourself and others. Makeup is best used to enhance what you already have with the right touch in the right place it can be truly transformative in how you feel.
Did you learn any beauty tips or tricks from your mother, grandmother, or the pros?
“When in doubt, put a lip on.”
What makeup items do you always have with you?
Lip balm, eyebrow gel and concealer.
What is your signature makeup look for day and night?
When I do my own makeup, I like to stay true to myself and keep it simple and natural. I apply a bit of foundation and a golden shimmer for cheek definition. I always try to make sure my eyebrows are perfect.
How do you translate catwalk to sidewalk?
My style is about finding specific pieces that stand out but can be mixed and matched
with pieces I already have in my wardrobe. I am a big fan of pairing higher priced and
lower priced brands, like Topshop with YSL or H&M with some Balenciaga.
ON THE MAYBELLINE NEW YORK BRAND
What does it mean to be a Maybelline New York spokesperson?
It is an honor to be a spokesperson for such an iconic brand. I am proud to say that I

saw the advertisements growing up. The brand imagery is always beautiful and
positive. To now be a part of that is a dream come true!

It’s a reminder that we are all born with a special quality that makes us individual and
uniquely beautiful.

Great Lash mascara!
What are your favorite Maybelline New York products?
I love Color Sensational lipsticks. I like to mix Nude Lust and Storm Sahara to create
the perfect nude lip. And of course, Great Lash mascara is my all-time favorite!
ON YOUR FAVORITES AND NEW YORK CITY
What does New York City mean to you?
New York City means opportunity. It means change and personal growth. When I first
started to model, I said I would never leave London. I was scared of change and to
be so far from where I felt comfortable and safe. It was a tough decision but I decided
to move to New York City three years ago. Stepping out of my comfort zone was both
exciting and overwhelming, but I am invigorated by this city that is always alive and
constantly inspiring me.
Describe New York City in one word.
Inspiring.
What are your favorite places to shop for clothes in New York City?
Barney’s is great one-stop shopping.
What are your favorite restaurants in New York City?
Charlie Bird and Miss Lilly’s.
What do you do for leisure or fun in your free time?
Cook.
Where would you like to travel?
I would love to do a tour of Asia, especially Thailand and Malaysia, just so I can try the local food.
What is your favorite food? Does it vary by location?
I just love adding heat, so as long as I have hot sauce, everything is all good! My favorite cuisines of choice are Caribbean and Asian.
Do you enjoy reading? What is your favorite book?
I do enjoy reading. It is a great pastime backstage and on vacation. It’s difficult to pick a favorite, but I am always on the lookout for an exciting read.
Do you exercise? What is your favorite workout?
My New Year’s resolution is to get into the gym. At present, my active life keeps me fit, but I need more! My brother is a personal trainer, but I don’t think I could ever train with him, so I’d like to start Pilates and yoga.
